Manager Signals and Telecommunications Engineering

John Skilton is a Chartered Professional Engineer and member of IPENZ with twenty years of experience in railway signalling, telecommunications and control systems.

John graduated from the University of Canterbury with an honours degree in electrical and electronic engineering in 1991.  Since then he has worked in a number of roles within the New Zealand rail industry with a focus on signalling and telecommunications systems.  These roles have included, design, commissioning, project management and general technical management.   Initially trained as a signalling engineer John also has extensive experience in train control systems and the associated communications networks.

John currently manages the KiwiRail Signals and Telecommunications Engineering group and as part of this role is been closely involved with resignalling projects on both the Auckland and Wellington suburban  networks which involve the deployment of communications based signalling technologies in the New Zealand railway network.
